The lineup consists of opposite senior Alec Weissman 10 digs, 12 aces, senior setter Sean Frazee 49 kills, 10 digs, five blocks and 10 aces, opposite junior Danny Leung 80 kills, 33 digs, seven aces, outside hitter junior Jack Fredricks 69 kills, 26 digs, nine aces, outside hitter senior Deep Athwaal 49 kills, 23 digs, 10 aces, and junior outside hitter Billy Fox 28 kills, 17 blocks.Also, middle junior Mike Manne 17 kills, 18 blocks, libero junior Kevin Lew 31 digs, and defensive specialist junior JonWong 27 digs. Off the bench are middle sophomore Owen Summerer 35 kills, 12 blocks, opposite junior Brandon Torrado, opposite sophomore Jordan Margolin, and libero sophomore Patrick Favis.Strauss has replaced Greg Rutz, who is rehabbing from an undisclosed injury and is out of school for the rest of the year. She has coached the girls team in the fall for the past seven years and was coaching the freshman boys the past five seasons until taking over the varsity this spring.

The Hunterdon Central boys volleyball team visited East Brunswick on Friday as one of the Garden State’s top squads. The Red Devils entered 3-1 with their lone loss coming against perennial power Fair Lawn, but early in the season, East Brunswick has shown promise as well, and the Bears showed it again on their home floor, topping Hunterdon Central in straight sets.East Brunswick 5-2 played with energy and confidence, notching a marquee win that should translate to more victories, but also open some eyes on the New Jersey volleyball map.

Alexander Portera had six kills and two blocks, while Max Levine had 31 digs for East Brunswick, ranked 10th in the state.

 

With more talent than any league in the state, this years Greater Middlesex Conference Boys Volleyball Tournament promises to be the most exciting ever.

While Rutz still makes changes to his lineup, he relies on a core of seniors including Max Levine (leads team with 47 digs), Jacob Sachs (34 points, including 109 assists), and Alexander Portera. Junior Deep Athwaal and sophomore Dan Lueng have also been team leaders.

Others who have contributed are junior

Sean Frazee (18 points, including 11 kills), senior Natesh Sood (11 points, including 29 kills), and sophomore Mike Manne (leads team in kills with 34). The roster is rounded out with seniors Jon Chen, Augusto Silva, Alex Werder and Zach Azria, and juniors Dan Kennedy and Cole Lipman.

Jason Foster tallied 11 kills and four digs and Kris Bebenov added nine kills and two digs, but West Windsor-Plainsboro North came up short in two sets at East Brunswick. Derek Yan chipped in five digs for WW-PN. Alexander Portera had six kills and two blocks, while Max Levine went down for 31 digs for East Brunswick, ranked 10th in the state.
