Its remarkable season and undefeated record was once again on the line for the East Brunswick High School boys’ soccer team on Tuesday night in the NJSIAA Group IV semifinals against Cherokee at Neptune’s Memorial Field.

The incredible run came to an end, as the Bears fell 1-0 at the hands of the undefeated Chiefs, the defending Group IV and South Jersey Group IV champions.

East Brunswick (20-1-2) was seeking to advance to the Group IV final for the first time since 1999.

East Brunswick’s 20-0-2 first goal came when Nigel Joseph threaded a ball through the box to Chris Bradley, who found himself one-on-one with Steinert goalkeeper Devon Downs and buried it inside the left post.Less than three minutes later, Joseph sailed a corner kick across the goal mouth to an open Robert Shaliker, who headed it home for the 2-0 lead. Just 63 seconds after that, Bradley buried a penalty kick, and the Bears weathered Steinert’s efforts from there.

Each team had its chances in the two 10-minute overtime periods, including an exciting opportunity in the final seconds for East Brunswick, but the game ended 1-1 and the teams were declared co-champions.

Seniors Rob Shalikar and Abu Bestawros each scored a goal on assists from Alec Metsch and Anik Ray to lead the top-seeded East Brunswick boys soccer team 18-0-1 to a 3-1 victory over eighth-seeded North Brunswick in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA Central Group IV Tournament on Friday. Anish Baweja netted the lone North Brunswick 9-7-5 goal, which tied the game 1-1 in the 16th minute.Senior goalies Ben Cohick and Zack Bower combined for 10 saves for the Raiders, while the Bears’ goalkeeper duo of Grant Korten and Emilio Rodriguez stopped nine shots. East Brunswick will play fourth-seeded Howell in the semifinals on Tuesday.

METUCHEN — It took a team effort on the field Tuesday afternoon and East Brunswick came away on the better end, a convincing 4-1 victory over St. Joseph in a Red Division battle, defeating the Falcons for a second time this season.East Brunswick 8-0-1 continued its stellar team play as eight different players showed up in the stat sheet.

Senior midfielder Alec Metsch scored on a free kick in the final minute of the first overtime as East Brunswick defeated Old Bridge, 3-2, yesterday in East Brunswick.Nigel Joseph and Chris Bradley added goals for East Brunswick 6-0-1 while Aaron Hart scored his 11th goal for Old Bridge 5-3. Grant Korten and Emilio Rodriguez combined for four saves in the victory. Old Bridge goalkeeper Billy Andrews stopped 12 shots.
