The Star Ledger, April 25, 2011 10:41 p.m.
East Brunswick’s Rob Jankowski showed up for yesterday’s game prepared, as always, to give a couple of innings of long relief if necessary.

As things turned out the junior right-hander was called on for seven innings of very long relief as he mopped up a first-inning mess and stuck around until the finish of a 5-3 East Brunswick victory over Colonia yesterday in East Brunswick.

Also covered in in a nice article by Greg Tufaro – with a nice picture of East Brunswick second baseman Alec Simoes.

“I just knew I had to throw strikes and rely on my fielders,” said Jankowski, whose defense did not commit an error. “I still had to get in my groove. I wasn’t worried. I was confident. I was throwing strikes early. I pitched to contact.”

Jankowski went on to retire 17 of the next 19 batters. He induced seven ground ball outs, including four comebackers. He fell behind on the count to just two batters. Jankowski threw 57 pitches — only 13 for balls — over the final six innings.
