November 22, 2007 - East Brunswick 35, Old Bridge 14

East Brunswick Football Mike Kelleman scoring one of two touchdowns

East Brunswick had not beaten Greater Middlesex rival Old Bridge on Thanksgiving day for the last 12 years, but playing the first game on the magnificent new East Brunswick field seemed to do the trick. East Brunswick came out strong and scored in the first quarter with a 25 yard run by Randy Varbelow followed by the first of Tyler Yonchiuk's 5 extra points. Old Bridge struck back quickly with a 48 yard touchdown run by Chris Suozzo. As the opening quarter expired East Brunswick scored off a beautiful 30 yard pass from Doug Fischer to Ray Bryan to go up 14-7. Old Bridge was moving again on the following drive, but they attempted a pass into the end zone which was intercepted by Peter Zheng. The Bears then marched down the field and opened up a commanding 21-14 advantage when Mike Kelleman smashed into the end zone from four yards out. In the second half, East Brunswick got the kickoff, but after a quick 3 and out, Old Bridge showed signs of life and scored on a 28 yard pass to Kyle Hoernlein, but that was as close as they would come. The remainder of the game, the East Brunswick defense completely smothered Old Bridge and the offense was moving the ball at will. Mauro Tucci got things going with a 45 yard kickoff return and shortly after, Doug Fischer completed a 28 yard touchdown to Ryan Ross. Mike Kelleman completed the scoring with a 40 yard run for a touchdown. Doug Fischer was East Brunswick's offensive player of the game, completing 7-8 passes for 138 yards and gaining 71 yards on the ground. Bobby Tocco was named the defensive player of the game. East Brunswick is now 5-5 for the season. ...For Game Pictures

November 2, 2007 - East Brunswick 21, North Brunswick 12

East Brunswick Football Bobby Tocco takes off

East Brunswick had a very satisfying victory over North Brunswick. The Bears struck quickly with a couple of big runs by Doug Fischer. On the fifth play of the game, he faked a handoff and dashed up the middle for a 38 yard touchdown. North Brunswick then fumbled the kickoff giving the Bears an opportunity to really break the game open, but the drive stalled and the Bears missed the field goal attempt. The defense then held North Brunswick and after they punted, East Brunswick had a lightning fast drive with a 38 yard run by Bobby Tocco followed by a beautiful 33 yard pass down the middle from Doug Fischer to Ryan Ross for a touchdown. The Bears made the kick and were up 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. North Brunswick scored in the second quarter but missed the kick, so the score was 14-6 at the half. The Raiders scored first in the second half but failed on a two point attempt to bring the score to 14-12. Marcus Borden then put in sophmore backup quarterback Mauro Tucci to provide a spark. Tucci proceeded to run the ball 9 times on a 16 play drive that made it all the way to the 1 yard line before stalling. North Brunswick took over on downs and it looked like the defense had a safety, but it wasn't called. Bobby Tocco then got his second interception of the night and two plays later he received a 15 touchdown pass from Mauro Tucci to put the Bears up 21-12. East Brunswick is now 4-4 for the season. ...For Game Pictures

10/26/2007 - Edison 7, East Brunswick 6

East Brunswick Football Doug Fischer near the goal

East Brunswick fought a tough match against a surging Edison team and came up short in a soggy downpour for a 'home' game at Edison. The Bears had an opportunity to take the lead at the end of the first half, but missed a field goal so the score at the half was 0-0. Edison drove the ball down the field at the start of the second half, but East Brunswick stopped them and took over on downs. The game then settled into a punting contest and both teams had trouble handling the catches. This was one of those games that was very likely to be settled by a fumble with the ball being so wet. As it turned out, Edison recovered their own fumble, but two plays later threw an interception which Dustin Schuld returned down to the 22. A few plays later, Doug Fisher nearly scored on a run to the left. On the following play Mike Kelleman scored to put the Bears up by six. The extra point was low, but the Bears seemed in control. Unfortunately for East Brunswick, the ensuing kickoff was returned 55 years to give Edison a short field to work the final 5 minutes. East Brunswick made a good goal line stand, but on fourth and goal from the 1, Edison called a time out and came back with a spread formation which spread out the East Brunswick defense enough to allow Erik Janz to run another quarter back sneak and this time he had just enough. The extra point kick also had 'just enough' - hitting the crossbar and bouncing over. East Brunswick's Bobby Tocco had 3 catches for 41 yards and Ryan Ross had one for 28 yards. East Brunswick is now 3-4 for the season. ...For Game Pictures

10/19/2007 - Sayreville 34, East Brunswick 0

East Brunswick had a frustrating night against a Sayreville team that was bouncing back from two straight losses. The Bears started off strong with a 55 yard run from scrimage by quarterback Doug Fischer, but that was about all they had to cheer about for the night. Sayreville was able to completely shut down the Bear's offense and the Bears were not able to contain the Sayreville running game powered by Javon Hodges and Rashiem Clarke. East Brunswick is 3-3 for the season!

10/12/2007 - South Brunswick 20, East Brunswick 10

East Brunswick's defense was able to hold South Brunswick to just 84 yards in the first half. The Bears capitalized on a 49 yard touchdown pass from Doug Fischer to Ryan Ross to go 7-0. A field goal by Yonchiuk made it 10 to nothing at the half. Unfortunately for the Bears, the second half was a totally different story. South Brunswick was able to score 20 unanswered points. East Brunswick is 3-2 for the season!

10/5/2007 - East Brunswick 23, J.P. Stevens 14

East Brunswick's special teams play and strong defense proved to be decisive in a victory against Greater Middlesex Conference rival J.P. Stevens. The Bears got off to a great start with an 80 yard return for a touchdown of the opening kickoff by Justin Price. The Bears then gave up some big plays an 85 yard touchdown by J.P. Steven's Jahyere Bryant followed by an 80 yard run by Dumchus. Down 14-7 at the half, East Brunswick's defense stiffend and allowed Bryant just 8 yards on 9 carries in the second half. After a high snap on a punt by J.P. Stevens, East Brunswick recovered on the 6 yard line and Randy Varbelow ran it in from the 4 to tie the game. Later in the third quarter, East Brunswick couldn't quite score and gave up the ball on downs at the 6 yard line. The Bears swarmed in and got a safety to take the lead. Late in the third quarter, East Brunswick had to start deep in their own territory, but got back to back 40 yard runs by Mauro Tucci and Mike Kelleman. Tucci then ran it in from 4 yards for the touchdown and with the kick by Tyler Yonchiuk, completed the scoring for the game. East Brunswick is 3-1 for the season!

9/28/2007 - Piscataway 32, East Brunswick 20

East Brunswick Football

East Brunswick played a strong game against perennial Greater Middlesex Conference Red Division powerhouse Piscataway. The entire game turned on a few huge plays. Half way through the first period, Piscataway scored on an 82 yard run by Barry Garrard who proved to be quite problematic for East Brunswick. East Brunswick fought back and drove down to score a touchdown near the end of the half on a nice four yard run by Bobby Tocco. With the missed kick, East Brunsick trailed 7-6. The defense held firm and with 30 seconds left in the half, East Brunswick called time out to make Piscataway punt. Piscataway could field the snap and East Brunswick took over on downs after tackling the punter. East Brunswick's joy however was short-lived. James White intercepted a pass near the end zone and ran all the way back to Piscataway's 5 yard line. On the next play, Piscataway scored and ended the half 14-6. In the third quarter, even though East Brunswick seemed to be dominating, Piscataway scored first to make it 20-6. East Brunswick did not give up and drove down to score but failed on a two point conversion attempt. Another Piscataway interception resulted in a touchdown, but with a missed kick, there was still hope for East Brunswick. The Bears drove down and scored and made a two point conversion to pull within 6 at 26-20 with 10 minutes left in the game. Unfortunately for the Bears, the ensuing kickoff was returned 70 yards and set up the final Piscataway touchdown. East Brunswick is now 2-1 for the season....For Game Pictures

9/20/2007 - East Brunswick 13, Woodbridge 7

East Brunswick broke a fourth period tie with a bit of trickery. On a half back option play, Junior Randy Varbelow waited for the corner to come up and then passed to a wide open senior Ryan Ross who easily scored a touchdown. Doug Fischer went 4 for 7 for 55 yards and rushed for 34 yards. Bobby Tocco gained 25 yards in the game. In addition to throwing the touchdown pass, Randy Varbelow also caught two passes for 23 yards. East Brunswick will play Piscataway this Friday. Come out to the game in Piscataway to support the team. With the victory, East Brunswick is 2-0 for the season - what a great way to start!

9/7/2007 - East Brunswick 33, Perth Amboy 6

In the second quarter they added to their lead with a one yard run by Randy Varbelow. The second half started out strong for the Bears when Doug Fischer ran 83 yards for a touchdown.
