11/20/2009 - East Brunswick 13, Sayreville 8 - NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV Semifinals

Tyler Yonchiuk kicks a 40 yard field goal

East Brunswick played a great game of football to edge out a determined and talented Sayreville team and earn a spot at the Group IV Finals which will be played on December 5 at The College of New Jersey. East Brunswick has only made it to the secional finals once before, that being the 2004 State Champion team. East Brunswick took the opening kickoff and mounted a 12 play 89 yard drive topped off by a 2 yard keeper by Mauro Tucci for a touchdown. East Brunswick then tried to get tricky and did an onside kick which Sayreville recovered. The Bombers took advantage of the short field and drove for a touchdown and gained the advantage by converting a two point play to go ahead 8-7. Late in the half, Sayreville was again threatening when Anthony Gudzak picked off the ball and returned it 30 yards to the Sayreville 38 with 28 seconds left in the half. With the help of a Sayrevill penalty, the Bears were able to get the ball down to the 23 which set up a 40 yard field goal by Tyler YonchiuK. The second half was a defensive struggle. Sayreville treatened on several occasions and missed a field goal that would have given them the lead. In the last few minutes of the game, East Brunswick padded their lead with a 37 yard field goal by Tyler Yonchiuk. Sayreville then realized that it was now or never and started driving down the field. They looked like an unstoppable force. They had a 1st and goal from the 8, but the Bears defense stuffed a first down run which was then followed by three incomplete passes to effectively end the game. This was a great game for East Brunswick. Come out and cheer them on to victory on December 5th! East Brunswick is now 7-3 for the season. ...For Game Pictures

10/31/2009 - Boys Cross Country: Old Bridge 54, East Brunswick 55

East Brunswick missed winning the Greater Middlesex Conference Championship by 1 point in an extremely close match. The match came down to a 12 or 13th place finish for Mathew Koller which was so close it had to be determined by the judges. This was a very strong showing for East Brunswick. Placing for the Bears were: 7th Alex Elkin 17:04, 8th Brian Smith 17:07, 11th Alex Silverman 17:16, 13th Matthew Koller 17:22, 16th Joseph DeMarco 17:27 and 21st Daniel DeMarco 17:39.

10/29/2009 - Girls Soccer: East Brunswick 1, Piscataway 0 (0T) - GMCT Champions

East Brunswick had a huge battle on their hands, but they pulled off an overtime victory over Piscataway in overtime to be the Greater Middlesex Conference Champions. The first half was played evenly. In the second half, East Brunswick moved up their defenders to put more pressure on the net. This strategy worked and the Bears made 12 shots in the second half. Bears shots hit the cross bar and the side posts, but didn't go in. In overtime, Elise Roughan launched a throw-in in front of the goal where Shannon Nulty was able to head-in the ball for the winning goal! East Brunswick is now 19-1 for the season. Congratulations to the girls soccer team on this fine achievement!!

10/28/2009 - Girls Volleyball: East Brunswick 2, Bishop Ahr 1 - GMCT Champions

East Brunswick is once again the Greater Middlesex Conference Champions in girls volleyball - winning for the 4th time in 5 years! The Bears got off to a tough start losing the first game to Bishop Ahr 25-17. In the last two games, Nicole Venezia and Rena Mamroud combined for 14 kills and Pam Larsen added 7 more. Becky Temkin, the senior libero, had 14 digs and two assists and delivered key back to back service aces to help seal game 2. The final game was back and forth but East Brunswick pulled out at the end with a critical back row kill from Becky Temkin to give the Bears a 23-20 lead. Congratulations to the Lady Bears on this fine achievement!!

10/23/2009 - Girls Soccer: East Brunswick 2, Bishop Ahr 0 - GMCT Quarter Finals

Junior forward Shannon Nulty scored off a free kick with 4:30 off the clock in the second half. Bishop Ahr had been called for a shove and East Brusnwick Senior defender Rebecca Kent set up the restart on the left 30 yard mark and sent a shot right at the net. Shannon leaped in front of the goalie and headed the ball into the net. Angie Shehaj scored the second goal for East Brunswick with a long shot that bounced of the right post and into the goal. Angie has missed most of the season with a leg contusion, but has returned in time to help East Brunswick in the playoffs. East Brunswick keeper Gina Policastro smothered any shots that came her way. East Brunswick is now 17-1 for the season.

10/23/2009 - Football: East Brunswick 19, Jackson Memorial 13 (OT)

Mauro Tucci broke three tackles on the way to scoring the game winning touchdown in overtime! Jackson Memorial got the ball first in the overtime, but the Bears defense stopped them cold. Things had looked bad for East Brunswick with Jackson having a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter, but East Brunswick proved that they do not give up. In three plays, they drove 54 yards for a touchdown and then they followed that up with a long drive that yielded a field goal to tie the game. Mauro Tucci had a great game with 135 yards rushing and completing 8 fo 12 for 104 yards and a touchdown. This was a great victory for East Brunswick and lifted them to 5-2 for the season.

10/02/2009 - Football: Piscataway 13, East Brunswick 10

Mauro Tucci touchdown run

East Brunswick fought a tough battle against Piscataway, but could not quite pull out a victory. The first half was scoreless until the final seconds when Piscataway scored a touchdown. East Brunswick got on the scoreboard in the third period with a field goal by Tyler YonchiuK which was set up by an interception by Tim O’Sullivan. Piscataway then scored on a 19 yard run by Anthony Tillman but missed the extra point to go up 13-3. East Brunswick struck back with a 17 yard run by Mauro Tucci, but could not score again. Mike Weber had a stong game with an interception and a 3 catches for 45 yards. East Brunswick is now 3-1 for the season. ...For Game Pictures

09/25/2009 - Football: East Brunswick 23, Monroe 21

Tyler Yonchiuk's game winning field goal

Game Winning 44 Yard Field Goal!!! - made by Tyler Yonchiuk topped of a great game between two strong football teams backed by some very enthusiastic fans. Monroe got off to a quick start putting the Bears in a 14-0 hole. East Brunswick came right back with two touchdowns, but missed an extra point to trail 14-13. Pete Sorrento #20 then in a spectacular play not only caused a fumble but recovered it as well. Mike Weber then dashed 24 yards for a touchdown. The Bears went for the two point conversion and made it,but it was called back with a penalty. Tyler Yonchiuk then made the extra point to put the Bears up by 6. In the third period it was back and forth highlighted by a big run from Jared Lynch. After Monroe scored and took the lead, it was coming down to the wire for East Brunswick. Mike Webber kept our hopes alive with a nice 20 yard pass reception thrown by Mauro Tucci. The drive stalled, but when Tyler Yonchiuk launched the ball through the uprights, the crowd went wild. East Brunswick is now 3-0 for the season. ...For Game Pictures
