East Brunswick had not beaten Greater Middlesex rival Old Bridge on Thanksgiving day for the last 12 years, but playing the first game on the magnificent new East Brunswick field seemed to do the trick. East Brunswick came out strong and scored in the first quarter with a 25 yard run by Randy Varbelow followed by the first of Tyler Yonchiuk's 5 extra points. Old Bridge struck back quickly with a 48 yard touchdown run by Chris Suozzo. As the opening quarter expired East Brunswick scored off a beautiful 30 yard pass from Doug Fischer to Ray Bryan to go up 14-7. Old Bridge was moving again on the following drive, but they attempted a pass into the end zone which was intercepted by Peter Zheng. The Bears then marched down the field and opened up a commanding 21-14 advantage when Mike Kelleman smashed into the end zone from four yards out. In the second half, East Brunswick got the kickoff, but after a quick 3 and out, Old Bridge showed signs of life and scored on a 28 yard pass to Kyle Hoernlein, but that was as close as they would come. The remainder of the game, the East Brunswick defense completely smothered Old Bridge and the offense was moving the ball at will. Mauro Tucci got things going with a 45 yard kickoff return and shortly after, Doug Fischer completed a 28 yard touchdown to Ryan Ross. Mike Kelleman completed the scoring with a 40 yard run for a touchdown. Doug Fischer was East Brunswick's offensive player of the game, completing 7-8 passes for 138 yards and gaining 71 yards on the ground. Bobby Tocco was named the defensive player of the game. East Brunswick is now 5-5 for the season.
