November 5, 2006 - Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Champions: East Brunswick 2, Woodbridge 1 (OT)

For the second year in a row, East Brunswick defeated Woodbridge in overtime for the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament. The Bears jumped out to a quick lead with a score by senior Melissa Demko that was set up by a pass from Monica Farag, just two minutes into the game. Woodbridge then started really applying the pressure and with 4:37 left in the half, Mo Olivo scored for the Barrons. There was no scoring in the second half, despite a few close calls for both teams. In overtime, senior Casey Caruso was the hero, scoring off a long throw-in from Rachel Penn to win the game for the Bears. While the victory marked the fourth consecutive Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament championship for East Brunswick, it was the first for coach Kevin Brady who took over this year for legendary coach Lou Kosa who won 24 titles in 26 years. East Brunswick is now 18-4-1 for the season.

November 1, 2006 - Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Semifinals: East Brunswick 1, South Brunswick 0

To get to the finals, East Brunswick was going to need to score against the county's best goal keeper, but that was a job that was perfect for Casey Caruso of East Brunswick. In the second half, Shannon Mastrogiovanni's corner kick bounce off the goal and right to Casey Caruso who headed it in for the score. With the victory, East Brunswick will face the Barrons of Woodbridge in the finals for the third year in a row, on Sunday. East Brunswick is now 17-3-1 for the season.

October 24, 2006 - Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament: East Brunswick 5, Middlesex 0

East Brunswick blasted past Middlesex with two goals by Casey Caruso and goals by Melissa Demko, Monica Farag and Naomi Stahl. Monica Farag, Naomi Stahl, Mariam Bestawros and Samantha Citron had assists for East Brunswick. Alyssa Sotomayor had three saves and Kirsten Gash had two for the Bears. East Brunswick is now 14-3-1 for the season.

October 19, 2006 - East Brunswick 2, Peddie 1 (2OT)

East Brunswick outlasted Peddie with two goals from Casey Caruso. Melissa Demko and Naomi Stahl provided assists. Alyssa Sotomayor had three saves. East Brunswick is now 13-3-1 for the season.

October 18, 2006 - East Brunswick 4, Sayreville 1

East Brunswick powered past Sayreville with two goals from Carly Lenger and one goal each from Kirsten Gash and Melissa Demko. Alyssa Sotomayor had four saves. East Brunswick is now 12-3-1 for the season.

October 14, 2006 - East Brunswick 3, Woodbridge 0

East Brunswick romped past last years Greater Middlesex Conference runner-up with two goals from Casey Caruso and a goal by Monica Farag. The Bears got assists from Naomi Stahl and Carly Breining. Alyssa Sotomayor had four saves. East Brunswick is now 11-3-1 for the season.

October 12, 2006 - Old Bridge 3, East Brunswick 2

East Brunswick suffered an upset at the hands of Old Bridge, losing 3-2. East Brunswick's Casey Caruso and Monica Farag scored goals for East Brunswick and Casey Caruso also had a save. Alyssa Sotomayor had three saves and Kirsten Gash had two. East Brunswick is now 10-3-1 for the season.

October 10, 2006 - East Brunswick 3, South Brunswick 0

East Brunswick over powered South Brunswick with goals from Katie Chase, Monica Farag and Carly Breining. Casey Caruso, Gabby Barbato and Rachel Penn all had assists for the Bears. Alyssa Sotomayor had four saves. East Brunswick is now 10-2-1 for the season.

October 6, 2006 - East Brunswick 6, Piscataway 1

East Brunswick looked strong against Piscataway. Melissa Demko and Naomi Stahl had two goals each. Mariam Bestawros and Sam Citron scored the other two goals. Shannon Mastrogiovanni and Carly Lenger each had two assists. Alyssa Sotomayor had one save. East Brunswick is now 9-2-1 for the season.

October 4, 2006 - East Brunswick 1, Edison 1

East Brunswick couldn't get much past Edison's goalkeeper Laura Robinson who made 24 saves to help Edison escape with a tie against East Brunswick. Mariam Bestawros scored in the second half to put East Brunswick on top, but when Ashley Cunha scored 8 minutes later, the games was tied and there would be no further scoring. Alyssa Sotomayor had 3 saves. East Brunswick is now 8-2-1 for the season.

October 3, 2006 - East Brunswick 1, J.P. Stevens 0

East Brunswick swept the home-and-home series against J.P. Stevens. Casey Caruso scored just six minutes into the game to provide East Brunswick will all the scoring that was required to prevail. Rachel Penn provided an assist. Alyssa Sotomayor had 4 saves in her sixth shutout of the year. East Brunswick is now 8-2 for the season.

September 30, 2006 - East Brunswick 1, J.P. Stevens 0

Carly Breining scored the only goal for East Brunswick in a scramble in front of the goal following a corner kick by Gabby Barbato. Alyssa Sotomayor had 4 saves in the shutout for the Bears. East Brunswick is now 7-2 for the season.

September 27, 2006 - East Brunswick 2, Lawrenceville Prep 1

Melissa Demko and Naomi Stahl scored the goals for East Brunswick. Caitlin Flaherty had an assist on Melissa Demko's goal. Alyssa Sotomayor had 6 saves for the Bears. East Brunswick is now 6-2 for the season.

September 25, 2006 - Westfield 2, East Brunswick 1

East Brunswick scored first, with a goal in the 9th minute by Miriam Bestawros with an assist from Caitlin Flaherty. West Field tied the game up in the 60th minute and went ahead just 8 minutes later. Alyssa Sotomayor had 12 saves for the Bears. East Brunswick is now 5-2 for the season.

September 21, 2006 - East Brunswick 4, Old Bridge 0

East Brunswick played stong against Old Bridge. Melissa Demko had two goals for East Brunswick. Carly Lenger and Casey Caruso scored one goal apiece for the Bears. Alyssa Sotomayer had 2 saves for East Brunswick in the shutout. East Brunswick is now 5-1 for the season and 4-0 in the Greater Middlesex Conference Red Division.

September 19, 2006 - East Brunswick 4, South Brunswick 0

Alyssa Sotomayer records another shutout as East Brunswick dominates South Brunswick. The Bears got goals from Casey Caruso and Kirsten Gash in the first half and Mariam Bestawrow and Carly Lenger in the second half. Caitlin Flaherty had two assists. East Brunswick is now 4-1 for the season.

East Brunswick suffered a tough loss against Voorhees in East Brunswick after winning an exciting overtime victory on Friday against Scotch Plains. Alyssa Sotomayer and Kirsten Gash had a combined 6 saves. East Brunswick is now 1-1 for the season.

September 8, 2006 - East Brunswick 2, Scotch Plains 1 (OT)


East Brunswick had a battle on their hands against Scotch Plains. The game was tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation. Monica Farag scored the winning goal in double overtime with a serve into the box from Naomi Stahl. Melissa Demko gave the Bears a 1-0 lead by scoring a goal at the 49th minute with an assist from Shannon Mastrogiovanni. Allie Hambleton from Scotch Plains tied the game to force the overtime.
