November 10, 2005 - NJSIAA Group 4 Semifinals: Hunterdon Central defeats East Brunswick 19-25, 26-24, 25-21
East Brunswick came so close to making the state finals in girls volleyball. At the end of the second game, the Bears had a 24-23 lead but could not finish off Hunterdon Central. In the first game, East Brunswick gave up the first two points, but after that, they fought tooth and nail the whole way. At first they were mostly a point or two behind, but after point 12, they were usually a point or two up. Finally, Marissa Nadeau started serving and slammed the door on the first game. In the second game, the Bears started well, but were soon behind 8-3. Marissa then made one of her trademark kills and Melissa Favis served 4 points in a row. Both teams made many spectacular plays. Andrea Temkin did a great job at setting the ball, even when the initial dig left the ball far from the net. East Brunswick could taste victory when they pulled ahead 24-23, but Hunterdon Central surged forward and captured the game. In the final game, it was very close the whole game with both sides at times ahead by a few points. The game was tied 18-18 when Hunterdon Central surged up to 23. East Brunswick tried to come back and made it 23-21, but with no room for error, they couldn't quite pull it off and Hunterdon Central won 25-21. East Brunswick is an amazing 25-2 for the season and they are still the Greater Middlesex Conference Champions! This really was a great year.
