The East Brunswick High School girls tennis team has been so successful over the years that the word dynasty comes to mind when describing the program.
Last season, the Bears defeated South Brunswick to capture their sixth consecutive Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament championship, notched another Red Division title, and were undefeated in both the county and division, with a record of 19-3.
“One of the things that people don’t realize is that these kids work 12 months out of the year for a 2½-month season,” coach Brian McInerny said. “I can attribute the success of the team to the girls’ hard work.”
The squad made it to the state semifinal, but suffered a 3-2 loss to West Windsor-Plainsboro South, which went on to win the Central Group IV championship.
